Reese had her FIRST dental visit today!!!

She did AWESOME!!! We got there about 10 minutes early for me to be able to fill out paperwork... as we walked in there was a little boy screaming his head off in the back room. I kept trying to distract Reese from hearing the screams by telling her that the dentist was going to count her teeth and brush them and I bet she would get a brand new toothbrush!

It was maybe 5 more minutes when we were called back, and another little boy that was in the waiting room when we got there, who had just turned 2, was screaming his head off as one nurse was holding his feet / legs and his mother was holding his arms! Reese was looking at him and kept saying "He's a baby" I said yes, and you're a big girl, etc.... really trying to keep her cool and pay attention to the other things in the office like the huge stuffed dog that they had attached a big set of teeth into his mouth..... finally the little boy was released and it was now Reese's turn.

Reese was a little apprehensive about having to lean back, but I was right there and even the doctor said "You're going to lean back, and mommy can take your picture!"

He did a quick check of her bite to make sure all teeth were touching, and spacing between teeth, etc..... then next came the ABC's of teeth...

Again, she did AWESOME! He was asking her questions about brushing her teeth and she was COMPLETELY calm the ENTIRE time! The next was the teeth cleaning.... Reese brushes with a Kids Crest automatic toothbrush, so it wasn't too different, though she didn't like the gritty tooth paste! LOL After the top set of teeth were cleaned she said "Mommy, all done!" HAHA! Dr. G told her "Almost, not quite.... that toothpaste is kind of gritty isn't it?" She responded yes!

After he wiped her mouth out he asked "Reese, do you brush your teeth at home?" She responded, "Yes! And Mommy checks them!" Which I do.... after she brushes I got in there to "check them" and tell her how awesome she is and allows me to make sure that all her teeth have been properly brushed.

The final step was a fluoride brush with her very own CARS TOOTHBRUSH!!!!! I didn't even realize that Flo was on there until we were in the car and she said "Mommy, CARS toothbrush!" How cool! Reese also was given 2 big stickers... and without me saying anything she exclaimed "One for RILEY!!!"

EVERYONE was so proud of Reese, me more than most I think. I even teared up a little bit because this was yet one more step this week to her really becoming my little Preschool Girl. We already made her next appointment for April.

GOOD JOB REESE!!!!!!

Reese is doing SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO well in preschool! I'm really quite estatic with no more hints of crying when I kiss her "bye" and tell her "I love you!" She's gotten good at climbing up in the front seat while waiting in line for the teachers to get out all 40 kids.

We've slowly but surely been getting MORE and MORE tid bits about how her 2 hours are spent if either by she telling us or her teacher sending home weekly letters. Linda and I were talking today, I need to ask if they do parent teacher conferences at any point, would love to know how she is IN class..... but anywho, she's been rattling off a few people's names that she remembers. Today she even told me that SHE was the LINE LEADER! She was so proud. The other day she was telling us "Reesey painted just like Daddy does." I asked her "Oh really?" she said "Yes!" and held up her hands... I further inquired "Did you finger paint?" and she responded with GREAT enthusasim, "YES!! Just like Daddy does!!" Scott has been redoing our front porch area and was painting over the weekend and of course, Reese being the ever so gentle observer that she is, was all too proud to be doing what Dad was. SO CUTE right? The BEST BEST BEST was that today was her FIRST hand painted hand print sent home from school. The prettiest little right hand EVER... yes, it's already in her binder.

I'm also happy to report that the clean up skills at home have spilled over into preschool, and now back over into home. While getting ready to eat dinner we were picking up and Reese started singing "The Clean Up Song." Well.... really only the "Everyone does their share" and "Clean up, clean up"... it was very cute!

It’s time to clean up clean up
Everybody do your share
Clean up clean up
Soon the mess will not be there

Clean up clean up
Look at this we’re almost done
Toys away -- hey hey hey
Clean-up can be fun

Be Bop
I think I’ll put my ball in the toy chest
Be bop...
And this book goes in my bookshelf
Bee bop...
Oh no, Don’t push all your toys under the bed
Bee bop...

Toys away -- hey hey hey
Clean-up can be fun

Let's see, what else.... oh yes, according to our weekly letter, the kiddos went to Chapel last week. Reese didn't mention anything, so not sure if she knew what was going on, or was more worried about talking out of turn, not that she's a chatterbox like her mommy...... but Riley's coming in another year or so.

I was joking with Linda today that everyone is able to see how mellow, passive and shy Reese is and I'm sure they will see another K kiddo coming to the preschool and think "The second will be just as wonderful!" ....... funny how we thought that too after our first!   Love Riley to stiches, but she's definitely a live one! 0

Today was also a milestone for me.... my first toe into the relm of fundraising mom, but this is a cool one! Raffleing off baskets. I've already gotten my idea, people on the ball and idea submitted. Wanted to give a good showing the first time out!

And before this post has ended, one last thing to share, Tom will be so proud.

Today was "Wear Red" day at Preschool.... so of course I was able to break out the red Puma's that Tom got Reese .... kills two birds with one stone too as Scott pointed out! She can waer them to her soccer camp because they are indoor soccer shoes!

Here she is sporting her kicks, and faces:

The funniest moment came when Riley yelled "MOM! MOM!" and she was sitting on the landing.................... posing. Reese exclaimed "Look at her!! Silly Riley Rudy!"

Perspective on Motherhood

I was online and saw this, brought tears to my eyes. Had to share because I thought it was absoultely beautiful.

Perspective: The Invisible Woman
By Nicole Johnson

It started to happen gradually. One day I was walking my son Jake to school. I was holding his hand and we were about to cross the street when the crossing guard said to him, "Who is that with you, young fella?"

"Nobody," he shrugged.

"Nobody?" The crossing guard and I laughed. My son is only 5, but as we crossed the street I thought, "Oh my goodness, nobody?"

I would walk into a room and no one would notice. I would say something to my family - like "Turn the TV down, please" - and nothing would happen.

Nobody would get up, or even make a move for the remote. I would stand there for a minute, and then I would say again, a little louder, "Would someone turn the TV down?" Nothing.

Just the other night my husband and I were out at a party. We'd been there for about three hours and I was ready to leave. I noticed he was talking to a friend from work. So I walked over, and when there was a break in the conversation, I whispered, "I'm ready to go when you are."

He just kept right on talking.

That's when I started to put all the pieces together. I don't think he can see me. I don't think anyone can see me. I'm invisible.

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?"

Obviously not! No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all.

I'm invisible.

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Right around 5:30, please."

I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude -but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again.

She's going she's going she's gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a banana clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this."

It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: "To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."

In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work:

* No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names.

* These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished.

* They made great sacrifices and expected no credit.

* The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it."

And the workman replied, "Because God sees."

I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.

I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there."

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

WOW.

This is freaky spot on!

(Babies) - Libra

The Libra baby will revel in the attention of others from the get-go. That baby whom everyone is cooing over at the doctor's office? Yes, it's a Libra. Passive yet charming, people can't help fawning all over this sun-kissed child. Perhaps it's the way a Libra baby smiles when others swoon. Whatever the case may be, this child is possessed of the most endearing qualities. Even-tempered and sweet in disposition, the Libra baby loves to have others around and would much rather be with company than alone. In a group, this child will mix quite well with others, displaying the very Libran qualities of sociability and diplomacy. The Libra tot is a born mediator, perhaps prepping early on for a career as a lawyer or judge. Loving fancy touches, the Libra child is not likely to take well to hand-me-downs, especially girls! These are kids who love to feel pretty, and the best clothes are a big step in that direction. Comfort is also important to this child, so clean, pressed clothes and a snappy room are an added plus. Sense a bit of control here? Well, the Libra child does know how to be manipulative, although they manage to do it in the nicest way. To sum up, the Libra baby likes to talk, loves to socialize and is a splendid (and even-handed) addition to any play group. Let the games begin!

(Children) - Libra

The Libra child is a born diplomat, a peace-loving sort who wants everyone to get along. The mediator of the playground has arrived! Along with this skill comes a certain refinement and panache which helps this kid pull things off. The Libra child makes it awfully hard for you to argue with them, as persuasive as they are. Cooperative and even-tempered as well, you can expect this child to have plenty of friends and live in a world of harmonious relationships. Spending time with their pals is something the Libra child loves to do, as this is a sociable creature who would much rather play in a crowd. That said, it's individual sports which this child will prefer, so encourage that love of golf or tennis. School won't be much of a problem for the Libra child, either, as they're bound to get good grades. This child is most assuredly mindful of a good appearance. The Libra child can be fickle and indecisive at times, so if this is the case, feel free to make decisions for them. It's just that they have a tendency to see all sides of an issue! A born mediator, indeed. Lastly, since this youngster can be a bit unfocused, be sure to keep them on a steady track, especially where reading and book work are concerned.

I love the way her mind works!

OMG! I so forgot to tell you all the FUNNIEST thing that Reese said on Monday.....

We were getting ready for preschool and in Reese's room just messing around because we had some time to kill.

Riley is looking up at Reese's ceiling fan which was going on the slow speed and laughing at it.... i was still in the middle of changing her so not really looking at Reese.

I then hear Reese say:

"Look mommy, I stopping it! LOOK!"

I turned my head to see her with her head back looking at the ceiling fan closing her eyes tight and opening them again

When she saw I was looking at her she again exclaimed, "MOMMY! I STOPPING IT!! I STOPPING IT!!"

I of course was howling with laughter! I love the way my kid thinks, LOVE IT!

AND her new favorite thing to do is when she's in the Crazy Coupe she'll say "See ya later mommy! Going to Target to get diapers for the baby and Riley."

I'll respond "See ya babes! Be safe!"

"Mommy, I'll be right back, you guys stay here."

Such a big girl!

Reese did AWESOME today. I'm keeping everything she's ever bringing home in little plastic sheet protectors and putting the dates on them. I think it'd be cute to look back and see what she did when. Today she brought home a Mater coloring page, ironic seeing as though I just put together 20 coloring books for her party! AND she made the cutest magnet that has a photo of her standing infront of the wall holding her monkey and giving a smile in the middle of saying "cheese" It's cute and she was SO proud of it. She's REALLY into her book bag, though she calls it her diaper bag, and her yellow folder. She's in the yellow pre-school class, so everything is yellow, etc.

Reese wouldn't even let me open up the yellow folder, she said "I do it mommy!" and held it up as if reading a book so I could see the photos in front of her. Where the heck did my "baby" go...... I'm so proud of her.

AND, I've figured out why I'm having a hard time "letting go" of 2 hours. I know that if I was working part time or even full time and Reese and/or Riley would be in daycare it wouldn't be such a jolt to my system.... but being with Reese for 3 years 24/7, ok, even if at my MIL's I get photos or verbatim accounts of things through out the day..... with Reese I drop her off in at a door and see her 2 hours later and really have no idea what went on during that "wrinkle in time" until I pick her up or my MIL picks her up and I get her. I see what's on the calendar and in her folder, but she can't really articulate what's going on, so I have to just ask questions.... which of course, is a yes or no answer, and it's a 50/50 if she's telling me what happened or just answering to get me to stop asking her!

It's tough to let go, even for 2 hours.... but I'm getting better, and cherishing every little thing she brings home..... literally.

OH HAPPY DAY!!

Linda called me as soon as she got home to tell me that Reese did GREAT today! She was amused that all the people that worked then were Scott's brother went there ARE STILL THERE! ANd she had to fight back tears "because it reminded me 25 years ago picking up the boys." Scott was cute when I talked to him this morning too. He asked about me dropping off Reese and he said "I think I would have cried." I said "There's no crying, if I would have cried, Reese would have cried, then we would have been a big bawling mess! I had to suck it up, so do you!"

Linda did say that she was surprised at Reese though! She looked at her like she didn't know who she was!!! I told her not to feel bad, Reese was probably shell shocked! Thankfully the director knew my MIL and a woman that teaches there lives RIGHT behind them!!! SMALL WORLD! She did ask where Riley was as soon as the door opened and of course, Riley was RIGHT in front of her face! When Reese said "Hey Riley!" then I think there was a collective sigh of relief from the other teachers making sure that kids were with the right people, even though I had given Linda the sign to put in her window... I tell ya, they do run quite a tight ship, I think it will be WAYYY better on Monday as everyone wasn't sure where to pull in, etc... especially when they pulled infront of MIL and other cars!! STINKERS. Ahhh well, guess not everyone can act like an adult all the time right?

I asked if Reese talked about her day, and Linda said she just had to keep asking her things and Reese would say "Yup." and move on.... Linda chuckled as she said "That stage has already started...... "

AND, OH MY GOSH, I think I hit the motherload.... the director asked me to send in a BUNCH of my korker business cards in with Reese on Monday!!! Reese was asked a TON about them today..... well I guess with 9(??) little girls in the classroom it's bound to happen right?!

I do find it so cute that one of Reese's new friends is Catherine because my earliest memory of my "best friend" was also Catherine, and we too looked alike. Everyone thought we were sisters for the LONGEST time, even into Middle School. We fell out of touch since high school, but have recently found eachother through the power of the internet and of course, knowing where her parents still lived. They were like my 2nd family growing up.

Just so intersting to think back to my earliest memories of school and hoping that Reese's are as good or even better than the ones that I, and heck, even Scott had.

I can't say it enough, wow, I have a preschooler.

NO TEARS!!!

I dropped Reese off this morning at around 9:20 as I had to finish filling out some paperwork at the door. It's cool the way they do it, even though "gone are the days of parents in the halls" due to security issues, that there is someone there to open the door for the kids to let them out of the car. Yes, I unhooked Reese from her car seat and she sat up front with me while waiting in line in the parking lot, a whole 25 feet.... anyway, she had her baby doll that we named "Rosie" due to the fact that it has a white outfit and Reese isn't big on naming her baby dolls yet and calls it by whatever color outfit it has ... Pink Baby, Purple baby.... well, this one she was calling "White Baby" ...... Soooo to be PC we named her "Rosie" this morning due to the roses on her shirt. I wasn't sure if it would "stick" but while dropping of Riley and letting Reese go "peeps" before class she asked "Where's Rosie?" PHEW!

Anyway, back to dropping Reese off..... I asked if she wanted to get out there, or to get out where we were and she started her "No." with an impish grin and I said "Now Reese, you have to get out, remember, we're a big girl now." She hopped out with Mrs. Stephanie (Director) and she was talking about how she saw "Daddy on Monday" and I said "Reesey, Ma will be back to pick you up with Riley...." and she finished "In Ma's van! [which sounds like vein ]" and she was all smiles didn't even look back to see where I was or the van when walking in! I was in a blind spot of the door, so I waited there until the door closed securely... isn't now going on quarter til 10 and still no phone call about an upset child, hopefully this trend continues!!!! I know she'll have a BLAST in the class because even I had fun on Monday!
